The Rhetorics of Design Thinking
Rhetoric is a form of persuasion and looks at the writer, reader, context and purpose. This can be related directly to Design Thinking in the following way.
Audience
Design Thinking has a huge focus on the end-user, or in other words, the audience. The use of empathetic thinking allows for a clear focus which bears the consumer constantly in mind and alters the way Design Thinkers analyze the problem.
Writer
The writer is the company and how their values will affect their end product. The end product needs to stay in line with their company's core beliefs, so therefore it is important that the company has a strong understanding of their vision and mission in order to effectively persuade their audience.
Context
In Design Thinking, there is always a different context, and until the Design Thinkers are able to understand the context fully, they will not create a successful product. By analyzing the context of each project, which are used during the How Might We Statement portion of the Design Thinking process, Design Thinkers make sure to understand the depth and range of the context.
Purpose
By using Design Thinking, you are setting yourself apart by showing your dedication to people's needs while still bearing constantly in mind the technologically and economically feasible. The purpose of Design Thinking is to create new products that satisfy all these variables, while still being original and profitable.
